How to structure your crime novel
How to write a crime novel, episode 2
If you don’t take time to figure out the structure of your crime novel, you’ll end up taking longer to write it than is necessary and getting stuck a lot (which is frustrating, and writing is supposed to be fun). Here’s how to do it so that you’ll always know where to go next and your book will always have direction.
Here’s what you have to do, very briefly:
- Use a three act structure
- Set up your characters in Act I, as well as a big event that propels the hero into the main part of the book.
- Unfold the main action in Act II.
- Tie everything up in Act III.
